Natural Treatments for Asbestos-Related Diseases;

Exposure to a naturally occurring mineral known as asbestos has been linked to a rare cancer called mesothelioma. This kind of cancer develops in the mesothelial cells that make up the lining or the lungs, heart and abdomen. Mesothelioma symptoms do not usually show up for 20 to 50 years after initial exposure and the cancer is typically in advanced stages by the time it is diagnosed.

Due to the typical late diagnosis, conventional treatment options are often limited. But there are many natural treatments that can be used to ease the symptoms of the disease, as well as some of the unwanted side effects that conventional treatments like surgery and chemotherapy can cause.

Meditation has been known to decrease feelings of depression, anxiety, and actual discomfort. Additionally, studies claim that meditation lowers tumor growth by as much as 10 percent. Meditation is also known to extend survival rates while improving quality of life. Presently, meditation is used in countless medical facilities to help cancer patients manage disease by reducing grief and anger. It also teaches those in physical pain how to cope with the extreme discomfort.

Aromatherapy is another great natural treatment. This medical technique uses fragrances in oils, lotions, and other substances to heal and prevent health problems. Patients coping with asbestos-related diseases can use aromatherapy to help address the illness itself, as well as aid in relaxation. For example, a massage with essential oils can help the oils travel directly to the affected organs or area of pain. Throughout treatment, the aromas help patients become more relaxed, alert, and mentally able to fight any disease.

Dietary supplements can also be very useful to anyone fighting a serious disease like mesothelioma. These include vitamins, minerals, herbs, or amino acids. These are not intended to be used as a replacement for food, but as the name implies, supplements are supposed to be used as a supplement to healthy meals. Supplements have long been used to promote health, but research is in progress to determine if this alternative form of treatment is viable as a substitute for conventional medicine. For example, studies have shown the flaxseed to be effective in reducing the growth rate of tumors in prostate, breast and skin cancer.

Yoga is another natural therapy that can be used for almost any type of serious illness. Yoga is an ancient form of mind and body exercise. For people suffering with chronic illness like cancer, a specialized yoga practice can be implemented to meet specific needs. Cancer patients suffering from fatigue and muscle soreness can benefit from a gentle yoga practice that can energize and restore the body. Those suffering from a chronic or acute illness who would like to start a yoga practice as a form of alternative therapy should take the time to discuss the situation with a physician.

To your health,
Chris
