Follow Up To Why Doctors May Not Know About Natural Therapies

Posted May 2nd, 2008 by Chris

Further to my mentioning that most conventional medical practitioners would not be aware of, or knowledgable about Natural Therapies…here is the reason why.

Drug companies spend unfathomable amounts of money researching drugs prior to getting them approved by the FDA ( here in the USA).  There is the issue of patents and the restriction of allowing generics to come on board to compete with the brand name drug.

When I discovered Graviola last year while my husband was battling Colon Cancer I read a very interesting story about a scientist ( who used to work for the research department of a large drug company) who released the information of Graviola being 10,000 more potent than chemotherapy in treating certain types of cancers.  His story mentioned how the drug company he had worked for had tried for 7 years to create a drug, like Graviola ( I believe it comes from the Pawpaw tree ) but failed miserably and eventually shelved the research, not wanting it to become public knowledge that a natural product (Graviola) could have such significant effects.

The drug companies cannot patent natural products, therefore there is no benefit to them financially to pursue research either proving or disproving their merit.  As a result, the doctors are not made aware of these natural products either, because the primary source of their information about drugs comes from the marketing and promotions of the drug companies.

The doctors, therefore, have to stick with what has been approved by the FDA and cannot, without potential risk, recommend natural products to their patients. Now remember I said ” conventional” doctors before. I should also point out that there are doctors who study the use of natural products to treat their patients and should you be interested in finding one of these I would suggest you do a search for Naturapaths.

To your health,

Chris
